My Ayuredic Regimen- 1st month

Good morning ladies-

A new year and healthy hair is my mission. As a mentioned earlier I am introducing Ayuredic elements into my hair regimen. I also mentioned I was encouraged by Mop Top Maven's, Nikki to do this. Her claim is that she feels her hair is as healthy as it is from doing this. She's been using Ayuredic elements for some time now. I also mentioned her hair is freakin gorgeous! Anyway she suggested a list of herbs, and from that list I chose what I think would best suit my hair. I stay away from protein I'm not familiar with, and some of these herbs contain protein. So I didn't purchase those. My herbs of choice were:

Amla- Stimulates hair growth, has wonderful conditioning properties, strengthens hair at the roots
Brahmi-Strengthens hair at the roots, helps relieve dandruff, also purported to thicken hair
Neem- Is an antibacterial powerhouse, it helps correct scalp issues, as well as promote healthy hair growth
Marshmallow Root Powder-an anti inflammatory, and adds slip.
Hibiscus Petal Powder-Conditions hair, promotes healthy hair growth, prevents hair loss, thickens hair (I couldn't find this locally so I ordered online)
Orange Peel Powder- Imparts incredible shine, light conditioning properties (I couldn't find this locally so I ordered online)
Vatika Oil- Vatika Oil is comprised of Coconut Oil and infused with traditional Ayurvedic Herbs [Brahmi, Neem & Amla just to name a few] Coconut Oil strengthens hair at the roots, promotes hair growth, and actually penetrates the shaft to repair areas of the hair damaged from protein loss.

I purchased all of these except the two mentioned at a local Indian market. I hate paying for over priced shipping. All herbs and powders were between 2 and 4 dollars, very inexpensive. The last two I purchased online at http://www.ayurnaturalbeauty.com/, and the shipping was very cheap (score!). Also was a great website. I'm sure I will be revisiting.

I soaked my hair with reg. coconut oil, let that sit for a while, and detangled prior to washing. I then washed my hair with my trusty Shea moisture shampoo. After shampooing I used my Ayuredic mixture to deep condition. At that time that I didn't have the Hibiscus and Orange Peel. So I mixed a tablespoon each of Amla, Brahmi, Neem, the marshmallow root powder, regular coconut oil, Castor oil, and mixed chicks deep conditioner all together to form a paste. The texture looked gritty but was velvety soft to the touch. It reminded me of my henna mixture but didn't smell like henna. All of the Indian herbs seem to have a similar Earthy smell. I really had to mush it into my hair. It was very interesting lol. I covered my hair with a plastic cap and let it sit for 1 hour and proceeded to wash it out. Here are a few pics:

The items I purchased at my local Indian store.
My mixture.

The mixture in my hair.

All washed out.
If you plan to do this then know that you must completely saturated your hair with water, and it helps to use a cheapie conditioner to aid in washing it out. I used V05, and make sure it's completely out by scratching your scalp lightly. I kept scratching and seeing gunk all under my nails. It was very time consuming. Hopefully next time I'll find a better method, but at least now I know what to expect.

After washing it out my hair felt very soft. I had no real curl definition it was one big cotton ball. I personally still loved the end results. I will be doing this once a month using some random concoction of these herbs. After this I blow dried for my trim so stay tuned for my next post tomorrow to find out how that turned out.
