2010 Mistakes and 2011 Hair Goals

Hi ladies-

Welcome to 2011!!! I am so excited about this year. So many spiritual and personal goals to achieve yay. So today I wanted to talk about mistakes made in the 2010 year. Some of you may or may not know but I big chopped Feb. 2010 after transitioning for about 14 months. I'm sharing my mistakes hopefully to help someone else. So here are the mistakes I made in 2010:

1. Henna is not my friend-I found out the hard way that it's a protein treatment ladies so be careful. I found out that I am protein sensitive. That delicate balance between protein and moisture I have yet to find. I now only use non-protein products such as mixed chicks deep conditioner. If I desire protein I add my own such as a scoop of mayo or an egg. I find that this works so much better for me.
2. The denman brush tears my hair out. I have found some use of it with very limited use.
3. Co-washing is not for me- It leaves a nasty build up on my scalp, and my hair felt heavy like it needed washing not bouncy at all.
4. I made the mistake of styling and washing my hair to much.-My hair started to grow when I just left my hair alone. I now wash every 10-14 days or when ever it feels dirty. I listen to my hair now.
5. I tried the tightly curly method (leaving loads of conditioner in the hair while defining each and every coil/curl)- Obviously if co-washing didn't work for me this didn't either. First off it takes an eternity to dry. Secondly I just plain and simple didn't like the smell or feel of my hair. It felt like I had a jerry curl.
6. I stopped using 3 different lines in one week- My hair was so freakin confused. Doing this I was able to cut back on SOME of my product junkie-ness. For now the sheamoisture line is my go to line. It's my staple...............for now.

What goals do you plan to achieve in the 2011 year? Here are mine:

1. First off I don't have a length goal. I've had mid back length hair so length is no biggie. I know my hair can grow long. I just desire healthy hair with less single strand knots.
2. Eat healthier! Drink more water! I've already started this, and it gets simpler by the month.
3. This week I will be trimming my hair. I haven't applied heat since I big chopped back in Feb. 2010. I plan to trim at least every 6 months from now on.
4. No hair color for me this year!
5. I plan to start a Ayurvedic regimen. HUH? you ask......I am mimicking Mop Top Maven's hair regimen because I love the overall health of her hair. I don't think we have the same hair texture but she has such great hair why not mimic. See what she's talking about here: MTM: Haircare Challenge .
I am taking the simple course. No henna for me! I pick and chose from the ton of other Indian herbs, and I'll be posting how my first experiment went this week.
6. More protective styling- This may be two strand twist styles or simple up dos. I hope to keep the single strand knot at bay by doing this. I plan to also do the same for my daughter. She has had some breakage around her edges. Probably from me not removing her pony tail holders at bed time.
7. Deep condition 1 to 2 times a month. Same for my daughter.
8. Purchase a hair steamer and add this to my monthly hair regimen.

So ladies what 2010 mistakes did you make, and what are you 2011 hair goals? Oh and here's a preggie pick:
I'm huge! 10 weeks to go. Let the countdown begin. My hair is ridiculously thicker. Until next time Ciao!
